Susan Cameron, A Creative Tapestry

Welcome to my studio. I am a self-taught outsider artist based in Mobile, Alabama, where I create intuitive, deeply emotional canvas studies. After tucking away my paints for thirty years, I finally stepped back in front of the easel and never looked back, letting instinct guide every stroke without the confinement of rigid rules. My work balances between the naive, primitive, and expressive, allowing raw colors and textures to reveal their own unpredictable narratives.

While I share my original collections and handcrafted fine prints online, I remain deeply connected to my local community as a proud member of both the Mobile Arts Council and the Mobile Art Association. For me, painting is about moving beyond premeditated concepts to touch something unseen, and there is nothing I love more than when a visitor connects with a piece and discovers their own story woven into the canvas.

"I am guided by a single belief: art has an endless power to surprise, delight, and connect us."

Authentic Outsider Art Studies

I paint without formal rules, so each piece carries raw, unfiltered feeling.

A Life Paused, Then Reopened

After thirty quiet years, returning to paint felt like coming home.

Rooted Locally, Reaching Outward

My memberships in local art groups ground me, while my gallery lives online.

Global Mosaic of Cultural Experiences

My artistic journey began with a childhood woven across Florida, California, New Jersey, and North Africa. This rich mosaic of cultures taught me to look closely at the world. I still carry the same intuitive creative instinct that led me to craft my very first batik piece at nine years old.

How I Approach Painting

As a self-taught artist, I reject rigid rules in favor of fluid, instinctive experimentation. For three decades, my work as a massage therapist centered on touch and intuition; today, those exact elements guide my abstract layers, vibrant colors, and unexpected collages until an honest narrative reveals itself.
